WELCOME....
...to the Frank Bush Memorial Walk in the Spirit Pow Wow! The Walk in
the Spirit Pow Wow is a traditional pow wow honoring the memory of our much
respected spiritual leader, Frank Bush - as well as all the elders who continue
to share teachings and culture with our people.
The Walk in the Spirit Pow Wow is an opportunity for native peoples to gather
in a traditional social setting. It is a teaching pow wow. We
conduct our pow wow in the most correct way we know for being rooted in the
Three Fires territory. The sacred fire burns for four days with
sunrise pipe ceremonies and talking circles. There is dancing, drumming,
singing, and traders trade handmade crafts and supplies. New friends are made and old
friends catch up. Our pow wow grounds are the Anishnabe homecoming
grounds, now known as Historic Charlton Park.
The Walk in the Spirit Pow Wow is also an opportunity to show the
non-native community that we are a respectful and honorable people. We are
happy to share our beautiful culture with the public and hope that this positive
experience will dispel stereotypes and breed tolerance in both culture and
thought.
Most importantly, our Committee hopes that everyone has a great experience
and journey's home with a good feeling in their hearts.
Please check back for updates as we continue finalize details for the pow wow weekend!
